Reading an EMS code
Pedigrees describe color with short EMS codes. The letters give the base color — n black, a blue, b chocolate, c lilac — and modifiers such as s (silver) and y (golden). The numbers describe pattern: 11 shaded, 12 shell (chinchilla), 22 blotched (marble), 23 mackerel, 24 spotted, 33 colorpoint, 03 and 09 bicolor. So BRI ny 12 is a black golden chinchilla British Shorthair.
