Chocolate is a solid color produced by the recessive b allele of the brown gene. A kitten has to inherit it from both parents, which is why a true chocolate British is uncommon. The ideal coat is one even shade of warm brown from root to tip, set off by copper or deep-orange eyes.
Like every solid color, chocolate keeps developing as the kitten grows, and the adult coat settles over the first year or so.
What we look for
- One even, saturated shade of brown without white hairs
- Copper eyes with good depth of color
- Classic British type: round head, full cheeks, short nose and a dense plush coat
